Goes the doorbell.
Jessica Penoyer certainly did not expect to see his 5-year-old neighbor, Salvatore Cicalese, on her front door.
What surprised her even more was seeing Sal, upset, clutching his 2-month-old sister.
He asked if they can be looked after by their neighbor, because according to him, their mother has died.
Bewildered, Jessica called 911 immediately.
“My neighbour’s son just came to my house and said that his mom was dead in the shower…”
Apparently, the mother was not dead - she suffered from a severe seizure, and was reported to be under the tap when the attack happened.
The mother, Kaitlyn Cicalese, couldn't be any prouder of her son’s initiative and alert thinking. Without which, she would not have been saved.
Kaitlyn Cicalese spoke to ABC News: “He saved my life, because I was under the tap. I would have drowned. I turned on the shower, that’s all I remember. Every day is a challenge for us… He asks me now probably a billion times a day if I’m going to be okay.”
“He’ll ask me now, ‘are you going to have another seizure?’. No, I’m okay, I’ll tell him. ‘Are you going to die today?’. No, I’m not going to die today…”
Because of his quick thinking and response to the situation, Salvatore was even made an honorary fireman by the Rural Metro Fire truck! He received an honorary firefighter certificate, a patch, a shirt and a helmet.
