A number of local celebrities and personalities have been very vocal on their stand and opinions regarding the upcoming elections. From urging their fans to choose their candidates wisely to showing their support for their chosen candidate on social media, their voices are heard by thousands, even millions of their followers all over the country.
Hotly-debated, widely popular Davao city mayor Rodrigo Duterte is backed by several personalities such as “Parokya ni Edgar” lead singer Chito Miranda who has been an avid supporter of Duterte from the very start. Miranda has stood by Duterte even through all the controversies surrounding the presidential hopeful. While other celebrity supporters, such as singer and TV personality Richard Poon and actress Liza Diño-Seguerra have taken to Facebook to express their disappointment over the recent rape joke incident, however despite this, they say that they are still for Duterte. Other celebrity supporters of the Davao mayor are Robin Padilla, Marc Pingris, Aljur Abrenica, and the Mocha Girls.
Liberal party standard bearer and DILG secretary Mar Roxas, is equally backed by a long list of celebrities including one of the country’s most celebrated teen love teams: KathNiel. Both Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla have endorsed Roxas, appearing in a promotional video shown in Roxas’ and his vice presidential candidate, Leni Robredo’s campaign in Cubao, Quezon City. Miriam Santiago and Jejomar Binay
While some stars have not gone public to show their support for presidential hopeful Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, she still has her own fair share of loyal followers both inside and outside the entertainment industry. Vice President Jejomar Binay, on the other hand, is backed by comedian Ai-Ai delas Alas, senatorial candidate and actress Alma Moreno, Isko Moreno, Manny Pacquiao and singer Aristotle Pollisco, more famously known by his stage name, Gloc-9. However, he is also openly campaigned against by artist Jim Paredes who headed the “Stop Binay Walk” in Makati last year, protesting Binay’s presidential bid and demanding answers for Binay’s alleged corrupt activities and condemning the former Makati mayor’s refusal to answer the charges against him.
