It was love at first sight, even though she was old enough to be his grandmother.
This AmoMama article is about a 70-year-old woman who fell in love with a 21-year-old man, and he had fallen just as hard for her. Sadly, it was not to last.
"Is he crackers, what does he want with an old biddy like me with all these young birds around?"
The 70-year-old Dorothy Sims from England had been enjoying a nice calm and relaxing vacation under the Tunisian sun.
Sitting down to order a meal at a restaurant, she could not help but notice a charming young man strolling past her. She could hardly keep her eyes off him.
As it turned out, the beautiful young man's name was Rafaa. He was 21 years old, and he was to be her waiter for the evening.
The attraction between the two was immediate and overwhelming. Neither of them could deny it, but she was too shy to mention anything or to act upon it.
But when she was just about to leave, the charming Rafaa handed her a little note, asking her out for coffee.
That little "Yes, I will" she had so eagerly answered to the coffee invitation had soon after led to a "Yes, I do" at the wedding altar!
Unfortunately the newlyweds faced an insurmountable obstacle. Rafaa was denied a visa into England. What ever were they going to do?
Sadly, there was nothing that they could do. As fast as their love had sprung up into live, just as quickly it had to be put to rest again.
The couple had to say their goodbyes and part their ways. Dorothy returned home to England, alone, and Rafaa started a new life in Saudi Arabia.
In the famous words of Lord Tennyson, "'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
How brave and beautiful to dare such a challenging love against all odds! What do you think of their short, but wonderful relationship? Have you loved and lost?
