Rescuers couldn't imagine that under the driftwood they would find this astonishing surprise!
A fire in an abandoned factory in South Carolina revealed a stray dog. But when she was examined, they realised she had not been alone.
Miracle the Pit Bull had been rescued in the fire and taken to the local shelter to be looked after. When the staff at the shelter examined Miracle they saw that not only did she have a broken foreleg, but she also seemed to be lactating. They were concerned that Miracle's puppies were caught in the blaze.
Staff asked firemen if they could take Miracle back to the factory to see if she could find the puppies, but were told they would have to wait a few days.
Four days later, Miracle was taken to the factory, and she led them to a site in the woods where she had concealed her babies.
During the fire, Miracle had carried her 6 pups one by one out of the burning building and into the woods. The shelter staff think this is how she injured her leg.
The pups had been so happy to see their mother when she had finally returned to their side.
Miracle and her babies were all sent to an animal rescue center where they could all get checked out. Here it was determined that the puppies were approximately 5 weeks old.
Miracle had a broken shoulder, and because it was left for so long she also had a severe infection in her leg.
Because of this, Miracle would have to have the leg amputated. Fortunately, Miracle has not lost her fighting spirit.
As soon as the puppies were old enough they were transferred to another shelter where they were put up for adoption, and all of them have found loving families to take them in.
Miracle had to stay at the rescue center for a while longer while she recovered from her amputation, but was also transferred to the shelter from where she is currently being fostered until she also finds a forever home.
How wonderful is it that this mommy made sure to save all her puppies from a horrible fire?
