- Netizens are enraged after Sen. Tito Sotto made an insulting remark to DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo
- Sotto referred to Taguiwalo as 'na-ano lang' mentioning how single parents are called in street language
- Secretary Taguiwalo is a single mother to her two daughters
Senator Tito Sotto has been drawing flak once again after insulting Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Judy Taguiwalo for being a single parent, referring to her as "na-ano lang".
During her confirmation hearing, Sen. Sotto opened up about Sec. Taguiwalo's personal life of being a single parent. He mentioned how women who have children but without a husband are referred to as 'na-ano lang' in the street language.
A Facebook user shared his sentiments about the senator's offensive statement.
"Sotto's last question during Sec Judy's hearing:
Sotto: On a lighter note, secretary. We've been looking at your personal information and found out that you have two children?
Sec Judy: Yes, two daughters.
Sotto: But you're single? *room laughs*
Sec Judy: I've never had a 'normal family', if that's how you call it, growing up. But it's a non-issue. I've been underground and been to prison. My story is different growing up.
Sotto: Ah kasi in the street language, if you have kids, tapos wala kang asawa ang tawag diyan 'na-ano lang'. *more laugther*
Sec Judy: Senator, I teach women's studies in UP. We respect all kinds of families, and that includes solo parents. Thank you.
