SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -A policeman here returned P100, 000 cash money contained in a sling bag that its owner left after eating at a fast food chain at the CSI mall in Barangay Biday last Wednesday afternoon.

The return of the money-filled bag which also contained several documents and ID cards was in coordination with Police Chief Inspector Bernardo Manzano.

Police Officer 2 Sonny Perez, who was assigned as patrol in front of the mall went inside the Goldilocks food chain and noticed the sling bag on a chair and concluded it was a lost item and immediately called Manzano.

It turned out that the lost bag is owned by a certain Renato Alvarez, an employee of a money-lending agency and a resident of Esperanza, Sison, Pangasinan.

According to Manzano, he got calls from other police stations, particularly the Sto. Police Station, regarding a lost sling bag in Perez’s area.

It was learned that Alvarez ate around 4:30 p.m. at the food chain and and left it after eating but forgot to take the bag that he had put on a chair beside him.

When Perez found the bag several hours later, he opened it before witnesses and was surprised it contained the money.

“Most probably the food servers there did not notice it, or thought maybe the owner-customer was still inside the mall because the black bag was ordinary-looking and would have no takers for it,” Perez said in Ilokano.

Manzano and Perez waited for Alvarez to travel back to San Fernando and expressed thanks to them after getting back his cash-filled sling bag. The cash money, according to him, was to be given to a client on that day."
