Would you dare to attend your ex-boyfriend or girlfriend’s graduation ceremony? That is exactly what a young Pinoy in Laguna did for her ex-girlfriend.
KAMI learned the story of Pao Atienza from his viral Facebook post.
According to Pao, he went to his ex-girlfriend’s graduation ceremony at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran - Calamba because he gave her that promise when they were still together as a couple.
“I promised her before nung kami pa na I will attend her graduation. At lagi ko sa kanyang sinasabi yon,” he wrote.
Pao explained that he hesitated to attend but decided to do so because he was probably thinking that it could be a good closure for their relationship.
When he got there, he was able to talk with the girl’s father and brother for about an hour because they knew each other.
After that, things got more emotional. Here is the rest of his viral post.
“Hours went by, as they took the stage to take their diplomas, kinakabahan ako. Di ko alam kung magpapakita pa ba ako sa kanya but naisip ko, "nandito na ako ee. Ano pa bang gagawin ko." I went beside the line. Nandon sila Tito. So ako, dun nalang din sa likod nila. Then she came. And I just watched her passed by. I saw her so happy. Tas lumingon sya mga ilang steps after dun sa pwesto kung nasan ako. Nakita nya ako. Sobrang sarap sa feeling na nakita kong masaya yung taong nakasama ko through ups and downs.
“I followed the line hanggang sa di na pwede makalapit. And I saw her family don. I stand beside them. Nung tinawag na yung pangalan nya. I took about 2 pictures lang. And then I found my self teary eyed. Then her Ate asked me, 'okay ka lang ba? Kaya mo yan.' Sabay smile sakin. Sa loob ko, okay lang ako. Okay na okay. Naluha lang ako kasi masaya lang ako nagawa ko yung promise ko sa kanya noong kami pa. Na kahit di na kami ginawa ko pa din.”
Then he got a text message that made his heart skip a beat!
“Biglang may nagtext sakin, sya pala. Nagulat ako. Di ko ineexpect na magtetext sya. She joked 'San grad gift mo?,' Then I congratulated her. Told her na sobrang saya ko para sa kanya. Which is totoo. Sobrang saya ko kasi nakita kong natapos yung isa sa pinakamagandang chapter sa buhay nya."
Besides texting each other, the ex-couple even took a picture together!
“After the graduation, nagpicture taking na silang family. I took a couple of pictures nila. Nandon lang ako sa malapit sa kanila. Nagmumkha na akong batang di mapakali. Haha pero sige lang. I want to “congratulate her personally. After nila magpicture ng family, I approached her. Asked her kung pwede magpapicture, she was very nice and accepted my request and then I told her I wish her well. We parted ways and waved goodbye to each other."
He then wrote a special message for his ex-lover.
“At para kay Ex, congratulations ulit! I wish you all the best! Goodluck sa bagong daan na tatahakin mo. I thank you for being friendly parin after all na nangyari. Thank you din sa chance makapagpapicture sayo. Take care always! Cheers! I am so happy for you! God Bless!”
Pao also explained his motivation for what he did.
“Now, I am so happy for her. Kahit hindi na man kami, tinupad ko pa din yung promise ko. Yung pinangako ko sa kanya. I can safely say I made it! I fulfilled my promise to her. I shared this, not because naguumasa pa ako na magkakabalikan kami. It's not for that reason. Hence, I shared this to tell that it's possible na tuparin parin yun promise mo sa isang tao kahit you're not in good terms with each other. Nagpakalalaki lang ako, tinupad ko yung pangako ko. And I think it's the right thing to do.”
