A Singaporean couple were ordered jailed after starving their Filipino maid for 15 months until she only weighed just 29 kilograms from 49 kilograms.

According to reports reviewed by KAMI, OFW Thelma Oyasan Gawidan, 40, was only given by her employers Lim Choon Hong and Chong Sui Foon, both 47, instant noodles and a slice of bread in small servings only twice a day.

Hong was sentenced to jail in three weeks with a fine of Sg$10,000 ($7,200) while his wife will stay in jail for three months for violating the employment law.

The Filipina maid was not only given inadequate food but was also banned from using her cell phone and was not permitted to go out of the condominium her employers live. She was also permitted to take a bath only twice a week.

Gawidan had the chance to escape and called a friend for help in 2014. She filed a complaint against her employers.

State prosecutors are pushing for the couple to be jailed for 12 months in maximum.
