Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has undeclared assets worth P211 million in a bank account at the Bank of the Philippine Islands at Pasig City, as claimed by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.
Contrary to his claim that he is just a poor man, Duterte is said to hold P211 million in a joint bank account with his daughter. The account is under the mayor’s name and Sara Zimmerman used both Davao City and Metro Manila addresses, respectively. The said amount was not declared in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Networth (SALN) in 2014.
Sara served as Davao City mayor in 2010 to 2013 while her father was the vice mayor.
If the bank transaction records provided by Trillanes were to be traced, it can be seen that a total of P197 million was credited to said bank account on his 69th birthday on March 28, 2014. This amount was from eight interbank transfers done during that period. These amounts have the following amounts, as Trillanes claimed: P55,131,747.32, P41,721,035.62, P16,852,832.94, P16,852,782.94 and four P20-million transactions. Trillanes has allegedly obtained the records from various sources.
“I received the information through my various networks. Mayor Duterte who brags that he is not corrupt and is a simple and poor man should be asked to explain about his secret bank accounts that contained at least P200 million,” the senator said.
However, Mayor Duterte’s legal counsel Atty. Salavador “Sal” Panelo denied the accusation, claiming that the amount of money reflected in Duterte’s Julia Vargas, San Juan BI Branch, would only equal to more or less P200,000 pesos.
Panelo further said that Duterte has already withdrawn the said amount in 2014. The mayor’s legal counsel also appealed to the public, asking them not to believe anything that contains malicious information especially that weaving stories is just an easy task.
Panelo believes that Duterte will be able to overcome this particular accusation and prove that he indeed has nothing to hide to the public.
