As reported by GMA News, the Department of Health (DOH) is set to name Dr. Dreyfuss Perlas a Hero on National Health.
Perlas, a barrio physician, got killed last week in Lanao del Norte.
Secretary of Health Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial herself went all the way to Batan, Aklan to notify the family of the victim that DOH will declare the slain doctor as a hero on national health for serving the public.
The 31-year-old doctor who was in a medical mission was gunned down by an unidentified man on Wednesday evening in the town of Kapatagan.
Perlas was on his way home riding his motorcycle when the suspect reportedly shot him to death.
The DOH has previously expressed abhorrence towards this intolerable incident through their Facebook page.
"The DOH deplores this act of violence. We lost a worthy public servant at a time when there is greater need for their unselfish dedication to duty," the note read.
"We deeply mourn the loss of Dr. Dreyfuss Perlas, who was one of the few doctors who dared to work in difficult and underserved communities. The Philippines lost not only a doctor but a dedicated and exceptional true Doctor of the Barrio," it stated in a separate Facebook post.
