Maine to Alden: stop biting your lip

AlDub fans on Twitter were treated to a kilig feels trip as the love team exchanged playful banter on Alden Richards’ cute lip-biting photos.

Maine Mendoza seemed to be deeply affected with his signature pose, and even used one of his pictures as a cover photo for her personal Twitter account. Her profile description now reads “stop biting your lip.”

When Alden replied by sending her his latest lip-biting pic, Maine retaliated by scrounging up an old 2012 photo of him, just to tease him of his signature pose and #hairgoals – a gelled and side-swept hairstyle. Her caption to the picture is “meh, 2012 Richard Faulkerson ng Brgy. Dila's lip bite is still better lol #HAIRGOALS”

Their fellow Eat Bulaga! Dabarkads – namely, Ryan Agoncillo and Lola Nidora - have also joined in the exchange.

TV host Christine Bersola-Babao likened Alden and Maine to Christian and Ana of the famous Fifty Shades adult trilogy, and even recalled that that very same line was used in one of the books. To quote her tweet, “Parang Christian Grey lang si better half mo. Christian to Ana : ”Stop biting your lip” you know what it does to me.”

As of this moment, her tweet has reached 43,300 “hearts” and 15,100 retweets. Alden’s photo response has 40,300 “hearts” and 14,900 retweets, and Maine’s amusing throwback photo of Alden garnered 38,200 “hearts” and 14,700 retweets.

Almost a year from its creation, these statistics seem favorable for the AlDub phenomenon. However, while they are admittedly still influential, their popularity seems to be undergoing a plateau. They seem overshadowed by other prominent young love teams such as JaDine (James Reid and Nadine Lustre, ABS-CBN) and LizQuen (Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, ABS-CBN).

While lip-biting is undoubtedly sexy and has lots of appeal for either sex, health experts warn that excessive lip biting could be an indication of anxiety disorder. While it is more often just a subconscious response to anxiety or excitement, it can also be a long term disorder that can lead to lip soreness, drying and scarring.
