An issuance of warrant of arrest and a hold departure order was given by the Sandiganbayan First Division for North Cotabato Governor Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza on Tuesday. This is for 3 different graft charges pending against her including the illegal procurement of fuel by the local government.
“After perusing the information and evaluating the resolution of the prosecutor, the evidence in support thereof and the records of the preliminary investigation attached, the Court finds that sufficient grounds exist for the finding of probable cause for the purpose of issuing a warrant of arrest against the accused charged in the instant cases,” said the resolution served by Ombudsman Teresita Carpio-Morales.
Findings showed that Mendoza bought P2.4 million-worth of diesel using the provincial budget from Taliño Shell Station owned by her mother. The 49,526.72 liters of fuel used during a two-day road repair project which was never open for public bidding.
Aside from the fuel anomaly, the governor is also facing the Kidapawan controversy where farmer groups are accusing her of ignoring calls for help during the rice shortage in their region. Mendoza is currently running for re-election as governor under the Liberal Party.
Due to the 3 counts of graft and corruption charged against her, Mendoza will be asked to pay a bail of P30,000 for each count.
