Miss Universe 2016 is about to get serious soon - the preliminary stage of the competition will happen this Thursday, January 26, which will be followed by the national costume show.

Since the post-preliminaries will be a spectacle for everyone, it is expected that all queens will put out all the stops in their costumes.

Case in point is our country's bet, Maxine Medina, who is said to wear a headpiece worth over a million pesos.

Rhett Eala, the designer behind the beauty queen's gowns, revealed to ABS-CBN that the headpiece was made of south sea pearls, courtesy of Jewelmer.

He also claimed that the earrings will cost as much, since he had already seen it.

It is known that south sea pearls are one of the most rare and sought after types of pearls in the whole world, which can be found in our country.

The designer shared that Maxine chose the design of her national costume, but hinted that it was tastefully made and will be revelation to everyone.

As for the evening gown, Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. chairperson Stella Araneta has approved all of the three designs he presented but it was still up to Maxine to pick what she wanted to wear.

One of his latest creations for the beauty queen was the one she wore during the Governor's Ball last week, which was a red strapless number with vertical beading.

She also rocked a gorgeous pearl-embellished strapless dress during the Okada dinner for the contestants, where all Filipina Miss Universe winners convened for an epic photo op.

The designer has not dropped the sketch of the gowns Maxine will wear to the preliminaries, but we hope that he will soon.

Since our statuesque bet can pull off anything, the same can be said for Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa since she is also a model prior to joining the pageant circuit.
