The airport police at NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) were able to capture a taxi driver being accused of robbing his passenger, taking P10,000 in cash.
According to ABS-CBN News, the suspect – Daniel Sallan – picked up his female victim at the Terminal 1 of NAIA after saying goodbye to her husband who works as a seaman.
During that time, she was also traveling with her 3-year-old child.
After learning that she was left some money by her husband, the taxi driver grabbed her shoulder and threatened to hurt her and her child if she refused to give him the money.
The woman was able to report the incident to the authorities which led to the suspect’s arrest when he tried to pick up another passenger at the airport again.
According to the airport police, the driver attempted to escape and fight back but to no avail.
Sallan denied committing the crime but his female victim positively identified and recognized him. He was charged with robbery with violence and resistance to a person with authority.
He also has past charges on car-napping but he was able to go out on bail.
Netizens were outraged by the incident, urging taxi companies to ask for NBI Clearance certificates from their driving applicants.
