- President Rodrigo Duterte has been named 2016 "Person of the Year" by Yazhou Zhoukan on its January 1st issue
- The magazine features Duterte in a seven-page article, citing his role in the change of power balance in Asia
- The magazine also lauded Duterte for his independent foreign policy, good governance, and anti-corruption campaign
President Rodrigo Duterte has been named 2016 "Person of the Year" by Yazhou Zhoukan, a magazine which claims to be the only international affairs magazine in Chinese circulated in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia.
On Facebook, Joaquin Sy posted several photos showing the six-paged cover story of the January 1 issue of Yazhou Zhoukan (Asia Weekly).
On the cover is President Rodrigo Duterte, featured in seven pages of the magazine, after having been chosen for his role in changing the balance of power in Asia.
His caption reads,
"Six-page cover story in the January 1, 2017 issue of 亚洲周刊/ Yazhou Zhoukan (Asia Weekly) on President Rodrigo Duterte being chosen as the Chinese language magazine's 风云人物/ Person of the Year for 2016. Again, the President was chosen for having changed the balance of power in Asia. Yazhou Zhoukan is published in Hong Kong."
Also attached were other scanned images of the article about President Rodrigo Duterte.
In yet another post made on Facebook by Krizette Laureta Chu, she lauded the President's efforts to maintain good relations with our neighbors.
According to Chu, "Duterte's decision to grow and maintain good relations with our neighbors will be one of his greatest legacies yet."
She provided further encouragement by saying that "we are moving towards the right direction."
"Asia is where it's at, and where it will be, for the next few decades. As the US and Europe continue to flounder, and the West pivots toward the emerging continent as power, both military and economic, grows in the region, Duterte's decision to grow and maintain good relations with our neighbors will be one of his greatest legacies yet.
Philippines as part of solid Asia, yes!
When I was in Paris a few weeks ago, all the expensive, luxury boutiques had Chinese/Asian clients. At Galleries Lafayette, a department store, each brand had at least ONE Mandarin speaking staff. Ang pila sa Longchamp parang pila lang sa Zagu. Parang bumibili lang sila ng milk tea.
The purse strings will be owned by Asians, and the world knows that.
In the January 2017 issue of Yazhou Zhoukan, Asia Weekly, published in HK, President Duterte was chosen as Person of the Year 2016.
We are moving towards the right direction. Xie xie!

Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella had said that the President received the award after his "announcement of his independent foreign policy, his distancing away from the US, and forging closer ties with China," along with his "good governance and anti-corruption campaign" in the country.
