Becky Bradley experienced a beautiful moment when her boyfriend Jarrod asked her to marry him. Unfortunately, she was in treatment for a brain tumor and before they could agree on all the details, with the countless hospital visits, her dream wedding seemed impossible. So the hospital intervened.
On her birthday, September 22, her team of doctors and nurses at the Levine Cancer Institute, North Carolina, prepared a surprise and invited her to her very own wedding.
The staff knew how difficult it was to plan a wedding with so many obstacles, so they planned it in secret with the help of the community. From a local DJ, pastor Lee Jock and even the stylist, everyone lent their services to the couple. St Mary’s Chapel and the reception hall at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery were also among those involved in the wedding. On October 9, with 60 guests attending, Becky’s dream came true.

Jarrod was so moved by the generosity of the community. “I can’t believe that all these people gave so much for us and all our friends who flew in from all over the country just to be here.”
The only person who couldn’t arrive at the wedding was Becky’s brother, who was on duty in Afghanistan at the time, but they even found a way to include him, bringing a life-size cutout.
The emotions were overflowing when they shared their first dance as a married couple with “Hold On” by Michael Buble, and Becky in a wheelchair. “The hardest part of the night was our first dance”, said Jarrod. “She was in a wheelchair, so it was pretty painful.”

Serena Perera, one of Becky’s nurses, mentioned that she had such a big heart and it was the least they could have done for her. The night itself was a success and Becky was able to have her dream wedding. With the help of the doctors and nurses, she really had everything she wanted. While Becky has a difficult road ahead, many people have shown that they’ll be right by her side no matter what.
