After drubbing Thailand via a 101-45 victory in the opener on Saturday, Batang Gilas dealt Laos an 81-point drubbing, 133-52, in the 2016 SEABA Under-18 Championship on Sunday in Medan, Indonesia.
The RP Youth Team improved to 2-0 in the six-team tourney where the podium finishers are guaranteed slots in the 2016 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship that will be hosted by Iran this July.
The young Filipinos showed their might from the get-go by racing to an 8-0 start and ending the first period with a 32-10 advantage. They never looked back and poured on the points en route to a huge 81-point lead at the end of the buzzer.
Alain Madrigal led Batang Gilas with 23 points, while Theo Flores had an all-around game of 19 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists. NU-bound Joshua Sinclair added 18 markers and seven boards, and John Bahio had 12 points.
Co-captain Jolo Mendoza finished with seven points, while Jonas Tibayan had 10 markers.
The Batang Gilas team is aiming for a fifth straight championship, having won seven of the previous nine iterations of the tournament.
The Philippines will next face Malaysia on Monday and then Singapore on Tuesday. Batang Gilas will end their elimination campaign against host Indonesia on Wednesday.
