A GMA Corporate Communications publicist reiterated that Kapuso Star and Eat Bulaga co-host Alden Richards is not endorsing any candidate for the upcoming elections and asked to stop using the #KagatLabiBae star in their political campaigns.
The call came after posters emerged showing Alden seemingly endorsing a local political candidate in Macabebe, Pampanga. The poster shows the Pambansang Bae with a local councilor candidate and a caption under that reads, “AlDub Nation,” pertaining to the fanbase of the phenomenal love team of Alden Richards and Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza.
In a post on her social media account, GMA senior publicity specialist Lendl Fabella tweeted: “Our #KagatLabiBae @aldenrichards02 is not endorsing this candidate. Please stop using Alden and ADN!”
In a previous statement, Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto has said that AlDub will not be seen in political campaigns this 2016 as an agreement with Eat Bulaga, the lonest-running noontime show where the loveteam gained popularity in a segment called Kalyeserye.
“We agreed na with the EB (Eat Bulaga) leadership. No politics for AlDub,” Sotto as quoted in a report on GMA News Online.
The re-electionist Senator and one of the main hosts of the noontime show is not using the pair into his own campaign. “I’m setting the example so others cannot insist on bringing them into their campaign,” Sotto said.
In September 2015, presidential candidate Jejomar Binay has expressed his desire to have Alden Richards portray him should a biopic be made about him.
"Sa sine, wala namang imposible, itinutugma kung ano 'yung kailangan," Binay said.
Binay was also asked who among the popular celebrities today he wished to have as part of his campaign.
He replied, "Sana si AlDub."
The breakthrough stars of 2015 are busy with their upcoming film to be released in time for their first anniversary as a love team.
