- A nursing assistant from Colorado was caught on camera sexually abusing a brain-dead patient
- Julie Henson's parents had set up a bedside camera to monitor her progress
- Instead they caught the shocking actions of Paul Bugarcic as he abused their daughter
Julie was a normal functioning girl before suffered she suffered a brain injury after a co-worker had pulled her chair out from under her as a prank.
Bugarcic (34), who worked at Cherry Hills Health Care Centre in Englewood, Colorado has been jailed for 15 years after evidence shown to the court proved his guilt in the sexual assault of Julie.
Her mother, Debbie Henson, said that they believe that Bugarcic's actions put back Julie's progress by a year.
After Julie suffered the hit to the head at work, her brain began to swell. She had developed a brain cyst. Doctors told her parents that there was just a minor chance that something would go wrong during a brain operation, but unfortunately it did.
Julie ended up brain-dead, unable to talk or walk. Her parents have always hoped that their child would come back to normal with time.
They said that they knew and trusted Bugarcic from the facility and never thought that they would catch him on camera abusing their daughter, who was helpless to fight him off or even tell anyone what he was doing.
They also believe that Bugarcic had been abusing her for some time and that he would have continued to do so if the innocuous camera had not caught him in the act.
