- The University of the Philippines (UP) Pep Squad will not participate in the 2016 UAAP Cheer Dance Competition
- The cheer dance group performed a special number for their supporters yesterday as a way of saying thanks
- The UP Pep Squad has become one of the most anticipated groups in the yearly cheer dance event
Even if they will not perform at this year's UAAP Cheer Dance Competition (CDC), the University of the Philippines (UP) Pep Squad still executed a flawless number just for their fans.
The group staged a 'Salamat' routine at the College of Human Kinetics (CHK) Gym on Wednesday night, drawing their supporters from all universities to watch their one-of-a-kind performance.
The UP Pep Squad is known for their almost aerial stunts and fluid movements, which never fail to drop jaws every time they perform.
After the successful event, UP Pep Squad's assistant coach Pio Opinaldo explained their performance is for those who have been with them from the start.
"The routine is designed for our true supporters. 'Yung mga sumusuporta, alam nila 'yung pinaglalaban namin. So, nagfo-focus kami sa mga taong 'yun. We treasure those people kasi we know na sila'yung kailangan namin," he said.
(The routine is designed for our true supporters. Those who support us know what we are fighting for. So we focus on those people. We treasure those people because we know that they are the ones we need.)
Even if they are not going to participate in this year's CDC, they will join another one that is bigger than the university-wide event.
They will represent the country at the Asian Cheerleading Competition in Jakarta, Malaysia later this year, which brings more pressure to them to perform at their best.
Some of the moves they exhibited yesterday will be part of their official entries to the upcoming competition.
We get the reason why they have not decided to perform at this year's UAAP CDC since the contest they joined will require more of their energy and time to prove that we are the best in cheerleading.
Here is the clip of their astounding performance, which is about seven minutes of gloriousness.
Since the 2016 UAAP CDC is going to be this Saturday, here is another clip of a dance showdown that is sure to delight you.
