- Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez is one of the latest addition to the growing list of drug-linked personalities in public office
- According to the head of the CIDG team who served the search warrant when Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., they had the warrant served from Samar because of the narco-politicians in Leyte
- No statement has been released from Gomez's camp as of posting
Actor-turned-politician Richard Gomez was tagged as one of the protectors of the drug group led by Kerwin Espinosa by the head of the Criminal and Investigation Detection Group (CIDG) team who 'killed' Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. in the Senate probe on Thursday, November 10.
Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez had been one of the four personalities linked to the Espinosa drug group, according to Police Chief Inspector Leo Laraga, the head of the team responsible for the operation that led to the death of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. inside his own jail cell.
The chief inspector had made claims before the Senate public order committee that it had been necessary for them to apply for the search warrant in Samar because there were polticians involved in drugs from the same region as a response to Senator Tito Sotto's question about why it was not applied for in Leyte.
Upon the insisitence of Sotto, Laraga had named the politicians he was referring to, saying, "‘Yung sa Baybay City is involved. 'Yung vice mayor ng Baybay City, allegedly 'yung governor ng Leyte, the mayor of Ormoc City, and the congressman of the third district of Leyte.”
On Saturday, November 5, the CIDG was trying to serve a search warrant for Espinosa alleged possession of firearms inside his cell at the Leyte Sub-Provincial Jail in Baybay City.
In an earlier statement, Gomez had raged against dirty cops who name unsuspecting individuals as part of the drug trade, particularly those deployed in neighboring towns of Leyte.
In a Facebook post, he had said, "These police crooks should be killed! They should be killed! Let’s begin from our neighboring town!"
As of press time, no statement has been released from Mayor Richard Gomez or his family.
