As the new United States President is declared, business leaders expect that Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will have a good relationship with newly elected US President Donald Trump.
Trump's win is predicted to herald a protectionist America which may have an effect in Filipinos' remittances in the US and the country's business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.
According to businessmen, President Duterte understands the Republican bet's outspoken personality. Peter Wallace, founder of the Wallace Business Forum said:

"I think President Duterte will understand the kind of person Mr. Trump is and be able to work with him. I think it may be good."
According to Wallace, despite comparisons between the two political leaders, the Philippine president is "more insightful" than the Republican bet in terms of their shocking statements.
He added that Trump's stand of being a protectionist would put remittances and the BPO industry in "serious trouble."

John Forbes, adviser of the America Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines meanwhile said that in terms of being a public official, Duterte is more experienced compared to Trump. He said:
"Donald Trump has no experience in public policy. All he's done is be in business and he takes a business perspective towards foreign policy and national defense."
Forbes also stated that he was worried over a US recession if Trump would be successful f his threat to slap a 35-percent tariff on imports from China and Beijing retaliates. He added:
"This is not a good man to have as president of the leading country in the world. This is scary."
Trump won against his number one presidential rival, Democrat bet Hillary Clinton.
