- Duterte declares he will not change his mind over the issue of Marcos’ burial at LNMB
- He said his decision adheres to the law that established the heroes’ cemetery
- He has previously promised Bongbong Marcos that the dictator Ferdinand Marcos will be buried at LNMB
President Rodrigo Duterte declared that he will not be changing his mind regarding the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
He said that he is merely following the law which established the Libingan ng mga Bayani. According to the President, the law allows soldiers and ex-presidents to be buried at the heroes’ cemetery.
The Supreme Court of the Philippines ruled that Marcos may be buried at the said cemetery despite numerous petitions filed by various sectors seeking the SC to prevent the burial.
According to the Supreme Court again, Duterte did not commit grave abuse of discretion when he decided to allow the burial of Marcos at LNMB. This, notwithstanding the fact that the President made a promise to the dictator’s son Bongbong Marcos, that when he becomes President, he will bury the dictator at the heroes’ cemetery.
When Duterte was asked if Marcos is now considered as a hero, he said that such perception would be dependent on the “beholder.”
When the decision of the Supreme Court came out, many groups expressed their anger. Senators Risa Hontiveros and Bam Aquino condemned the decision, along with Vice President Leni Robredo.
Some people derive comfort from animals in the midst of all the political chaos. This couple actually derive their comfort from bears. Yes, they live with bears.
