Pacquiao wins world welterweight title vs. Vargas

- Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao won his fight against Mexican-American boxer Jessie Vargas

Philippine senator and Pinoy pride Manny Pacquiao once again made the Las Vegas crowd go wild as he grabbed the WBO World welterweight title beating Jessie Vargas via unanimous decision.

Pacman, who fought for the first time after being elected as a Senator, won the title after winning all three of the scorecards, 114-113, 118-109, and 118-109 getting an AP score of 119-109. He said:

"I feel happy. I feel like I could do more but my aim in every round is not to knock him out. Thanks to all my fans! Thanks to all the Filipino people!"

Pacquiao showed his determination from the start of the match as he knocked down the Mexican-American boxer on the second round after he gave Vargas a powerful flush on the chin. From that moment, the Pinoy fighter consistently won over Vargas until the fight rounds ended.

One of the highlights of the fight was the attendance of Pacquiao's old foe Floyd Mayweather Jr. who was watching from the ringside. Pacquiao, before the match started, even gave Mayweather a smile and a wave when he spotted him watching from the audience.

Mayweather did not answers questions about his comeback to the boxing ring, instead he said with his daughter beside him:

“I came to take my daughter to the fights.”

Pacquiao and Mayweather previously faced each other in a controversial match dubbed as 'the richest fight ever' where the Pinoy fighter earned $100 million.

Pacquiao is now guaranteed a $4 million plus a percentage of the revenue of the fight after beating Vargas who will get $2.8 million.
