Duterte on hearing God: It was a joke
- President Rodrigo Duterte said that he wa just joking when he said that he heard God
- Duterte shared that he heard God whisper to him and told him not to cuss anymore
- The president recently cursed as he slammed the United States after stopping the selling of rifles to the Philippines
President Rodrigo Duterte, after announcing that he heard God telling him not to curse again, said he was only joking.
During his speech in front of the members of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Duterte said that his statement about God whispering to his ear on his way home from his trip in Japan, telling him not to curse again or else he will bring down the plane was a joke. He said:
"In the plane everybody was asleep, snoring and somebody whispered to me, huwag kang magmura uli kasi ihulog ko ‘yung eroplano. Alam mo mga buang naniwala rin."

“I’m not a bar topnotcher, but I’m not that stupid.”
The president then cited that he is known for telling jokes in Davao City where he served as the mayor. He stated:
"Kasi sabi ko nga, ang paborito ko sa Davao, magbiro ng kung anu-ano, tapos sabihin, ha? Ganun-ganun, tapos bawiin ko, eh maniwala ka pala. Ka ugok mo eh."

Duterte earlier broke his promise of not cussing again after he slammed the United States and US President Barack Obama as officials stopped selling 26,000 rifles to the Philippines. Duterte said:
"Sabi pa itong isa, maniwala daw siya kung ako ang makipag-usap sa Diyos pero kung ang Diyos na ang makipag-usap sa akin, sabi niya eh, 'Schizo ka'. Eh, kung dalawa na lang kami na schizo, ang Ginoo pati ako? Kung hindi ka torpe, tatlo na tayo: ikaw, Diyos pati… hay naku, buhay."
Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar suggested that mediamen should undergo a briefing from journalists in Davao to know whenever the president is telling a joke or is discussing a serious matter.
