- Age discrimination is very apparent in many societies especially in the Philippines
- This netizen shared a photo of an old man working as a crew in McDonald’s Singapore
- The photo has gone viral and many netizens are hoping that more businesses will avoid age discrimination
It is evident in many societies, including the Philippines, that age discrimination makes it hard for old people to make use of their skills in the workplace. Most of the time, companies look at old people as already incapable because of their age but there are still some who are qualified and fit for the job.
Despite the prevailing age discrimination in many countries, a food chain in Singapore seemed to be breaking the barriers that hinder old people to still enter the work force.
In the photo shared by Facebook user Lemuel Baltazar Estrada, an old man was seen cleaning the table in a McDonald’s branch in Singapore.
Estrada narrated that they helped the old man by fixing their own litter so it would be easier for the old man to fix and clean the table.
“McDo Service Crew. Yung pinagkainan namin eh inayos naming mabuti at nilagay na sa tray para di na siya mahirapan (sama kahit bata ang crew). Ayaw kasi niya magpatulong.#JudosnSalute2SGMcDo for giving them equal job opportunities. Sana lahat ng branches magkaroon para mas maging disiplinado and mga customers lalo na ang mga kabataan. Feel free to share, no need to ask permission,” Estrada captioned in his photo.
(McDo Service Crw. We arranged all the utensils we used for eating and placed them on the tray so he will not have a difficult time (we do the same even if the crew is young). He did not want someone to help him. #KudosnSalute2SGMcDo for giving them equal job opportunities. We hope that all branches in the Philippines will also have old crew so that the customers will be more disciplined, especially the young people.)
While some netizens felt sad that an old man is still working hard considering his age, there are some who are happy that McDonald’s does not let age discrimination hinder old people from working.
