A German Sheppard named Ciccio (other versions say his name is Tommy) was abandoned in a wasteland five years ago. But near there lived a 57-years-old woman named Maria Margherita Lochi, a woman with a big heart. She found the dog and decided to adopt him.
Ciccio’s life drastically changed when he found a home full of love and caring in the city of San Donaci, Italy.
Maria Margherita was an animal lover and had adopted several dogs and cats before, but the relationship between her and Ciccio was very special.

Maria every day went to the church of St. Mary of the Assumption, and the priest allowed the entrance of Ciccio, who always accompanied Maria and laid patiently at her feet until it was time to go back home.
Sadly, Maria passed away in November of 2012. Ciccio followed the coffin of her beloved owner when the community members carried it to the church, Ciccio seated next to the coffin, near the altar’s stairs.
Since that day, every time the church bells ring, Ciccio still goes to the church.
Priest Donato Panna said: “He’s there every time the mass starts and always behaves well. He doesn’t make any noise, and I’ve never heard him bark in the whole time he’s been coming.”
Priest Donato also said that after Maria´s funeral, he still comes, waits patiently and quietly by the altar. “I can’t throw him out”.
The whole town is in charge of Ciccio. Everybody takes care of him and feeds him, although it would be better if he could find a permanent home where he could start his life again.
