- Kiara Giel Gregorio has replaced Imelda Schweighart as the new Miss Philippines Earth 2016
- Her passion and commendable advocacy on protecting the environment has earned her the title
- Schweighart resigned from her title after being relentlessly bashed on social media
If it’s meant for you, it will find a way to reach you – this is exactly what happened to the newly hailed Miss Philippines Earth 2016 Kiara Giel Gregorio when she replaced Imelda Schweighart on Monday, October 31.
The Cabanatuan-born beauty has been passionate about the current condition of the environment and has been devoted on sparking a change to improve it.
“I see this journey not as a destination, but a mission in creating a culture of change and transformation in the lives of many,” Gregorio said in a part of her speech for the video on Miss Philippines Earth according to ABS-CBN News.
Although she is honest to admit that turning the tides against the dangerous climate change is ‘ambitious,’ Gregorio remains positive that ‘respect for Mother Nature’ remains to be alive.
On her Instagram profile, Gregorio expressed her gratitude how she was given a massive opportunity to share her advocacy through her “One with the Earth” campaign which only began as a small project back in her hometown.
The program revolves around providing people the appropriate skills and helping them to understand environmental issues better.
The law student is set to coordinate with the reigning Miss Earth Katherine Espin of Ecuador.
Originally, Gregorio won first runner-up during the prestigious pageant, leaving Schweighart with the task of representing the country on the international event itself.

However, Schweighart earned a huge backlash on social media due to her controversial statements. The first was when she compared President Rodrigo Duterte to notorious Nazi leader, Adolf Hitler. Another was when she was recorded of hinting that Espin has gone under the knife which has become viral since then.
Schweighart resigned from her post.
As inspiring as how Gregorio’s hard work paid off when she replaced Schweighart, this woman’s battle against obesity is too.
Aside from being a beauty queen and a dedicated student, Gregorio has also walked on fashion shows in London while donning the wonderful pieces made by Filipino designers.
