Raina Trindade is a 29-year-old “carioca” (a name for those born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) who weighed about 120 kg (265 pounds). That’s right! “Weighed” in the past, because with her determination, Raina started a project to lose 68 kg (150 pounds)! And best of all is that in a year and a half she achieved her goal!
She said she always ate too much fast food and processed food and because of this her health became much worse. Always bullied at school because of her overweight, Raina was living an unhappy life.
It all started when Raina gained 107 kg (235 pounds) in adolescence and at that time, with only 15 years old, she started taking diet pills. At 25, these remedies were no longer working and she could not lose weight.
Her health was worsening more and more. Through medical exams, her doctors identified a high risk of heart attack, because the fat was accumulating in the arteries. Furthermore, Raina suffered from other obesity conditions such as joint pain, shortness of breath and heart palpitations. After several advices of her doctors, Raina agreed to lose weight healthily.
Raina decided to undergo a bariatric surgery and subsequently had a tummy tuck surgery and a breast augmentation surgery. Through all these processes, she was able to lose the 68 kg (150 pounds) of her initial goal. However, she is not satisfied yet and now her efforts are focused on gaining muscle mass and “lose” .
“It’s like a fight for me, I am in constant war with my body,” Raina says, explaining that only bariatric surgery is not the solution, “You also need to have a lot of willpower.”
She further explains that she was always chubby and always liked sweets, but despite all the weight loss process, the desire to eat junk food remains today and that is exactly why she says she is fighting constantly. “Besides the stomach surgery, I also had undergone a surgery in my mind. So I still consider myself fat and I’m still dying to eat the crap that I loved so much.”
