Arnel Pineda shares how he overcame drug addiction

- Arnel Pineda became a little nostalgic upon recalling his "dark past"

- He used to be under the influence of drugs but managed to turn away from the habit with the help of his wife

- The acclaimed international singer said that change must first come from within the individual himself

Arnel Pineda can still remember how he got away with drug addiction.

"Parang binuhusan ka ng malamig na tubig sa ulo," the singer shared during his interview with the morning talk show Magandang Buhay on October 25.

He revealed that his wife, Cherry made him abandon his "dark past."

"Pagkatapos nun, the next day, walang rehab-rehab, that's it," Pineda said.

He has been sober for over a decade now. All because of his loving wife.

In 2003, on the evening of his birthday celebration, his wife threathened to walk away and leave him alone. That hit him. Life for him without his wife is unimaginable.

As a teenager, Pineda would usually sleep in park benches in Manila area, but, with the help of his wife, he managed to stive hard and improve himself fo the greater good.

Today Pineda is leading the American rock band Journey on one of its biggest world tour. He was chosen to replace the iconic Steve Perry.

"Ikaw ang may control talaga sa buhay mo eh. Huwag mong iaasa sa magulang mo, sa kapatid mo, o sa best friend mo. Kailangan talaga manggaling sa iyo. Solid change, sa iyo dapat," Pineda noted.

(You control your own life. Do not rely on your mother, siblings or best friend. It must come from you. Solid change, it should begin from you.)
