“My answer is heto BUHAY NA BUHAY (here I am, very much alive), kapatid ko sa ama [ang namatay] at kapangalan ko rin (it was my namesake half-brother who died). Mas bata sa akin yun (he is younger than me),” the actor said in a text message to PEP.

Julio Diaz underwent a successful brain surgery to treat his brain aneurysm in April and his sister Lulu Datuin, who posted the news about their half-brother’s death, was the one who asked the Filipino people to help their family out in paying for his medical bills.

She has also clarified through her Facebook page that Julio Diaz is alive and well and that it was their brother who actually died.

"My half-brother 'Mariano Julio Diaz' De Leon Regaliza, who is an actor, is still alive,” Lulu wrote.

According to Julio Diaz, their similar names and the fact that he underwent brain surgery a few months ago are the main reasons for the media confusion about the reports of his death.

Julio Diaz – one of the most reliable dramatic actors in Philippine cinema – has appeared in critically acclaimed movies such as “Serbis” and “Kinatay.”

He also recently appeared in “Ma Rosa,” the Philippines’ official entry for next year’s Academy Awards ceremony.
