- A Germany-based news site reported that Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach was arrested for smuggling $1.5 million worth of cocaine in Malaysia
- Esther Swan of the Miss Universe Organization invalidated the hoax news on her Facebook account
- Pia is currently in the United States, with the FilFest 2016 as her recent appearance
Like they always say, do not believe anything that you read and see on the Internet. Case in point: the alleged arrest of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach at the Kuala Lumpur Airport for 10 kilograms of cocaine last Saturday.
The report came from News24-TV, a news website based in Cologne, Germany which also has operations in 17 countries. According to their article, Pia reportedly smuggled the illegal drug in two plastic coffee bags. The value of the cocaine was said to be around $1.5 million.
The news also stressed that drug trafficking in the predominantly Muslim country will be punished by death penalty, which implied of the possible fate that awaits the incumbent Miss Universe.
The dubious news site ended their report that Pia has been detained and awaiting interrogations.
Before jumping into conclusions, a quick check at the official Miss Universe Instagram account proves that Pia is not in the Southeast Asian country but is actually in the United States.
Her personal Instagram, which has served as another outlet to document her work, backs this information.
It can also be attested by Esther Swan, Pia's current manager, as she posted her reaction to the hoax news on Facebook.
Esther is also known for being a member of the organization's Public Relations Department.
Pia has not responded yet regarding the suspicious report.
If it is true, it is not only her reputation that is ruined but her country as well. For example, this Nigerian politician who besmirched his government with his ignorance.
