Edie Simms wanted to be arrested and take a ride in the back of a squad car complete with handcuffs but she was a sweet law-abiding citizen. So on her 102 birthday she decided to make it happen. The police were contacted and were happy to oblige. They are law enforcement but they also do their best as far as public service goes. If Edie Simms wanted to be arrested they would make her dream come true.

They pitched up to fetch her and treated her like a “suspect” and she loved every minute of it. She entertained with anecdotes and pearls of wisdom. She also gave them gifts of scarves and socks which she had made herself.

She is known for her homemade items. She confessed that her first wearable homemade item was a dress that she wore to school when she was ten years old. She spends most of her time at the Five Star Senior Center where she makes her handcrafts. Last year she made 413 items for other members of the center.

When the police dropped her off at the senior center she celebrated her birthday playing bingo. At the bingo party all the players were given a home made item, lovingly crafted by Edie.

The ST. Louis Police Department were delighted to have helped this amazing woman have a spectacular birthday. They love contributing to seniors quality of life. St. John McLaughlin says that they probably get a bigger kick out of making a senor happy than the senior does.
