- Ashton Kutcher and ex-wife Demi Moore started Thorne in 2008
- It has been instrumental in the fight against human trafficking
- 6,000 victims have been found to date
Ashton Kutcher is well known as an actor. He is also an activist and a business man. He recently joined the hosts of “The Today Show”.
Demi Moore, his ex-wife and himself started an organization called Thorn in 2008. This organisation is committed to helping sex trafficking victims. So far they have recovered over 6,000 trafficking victims this year and have traced approximately 2,000 traffickers.
He has discovered that all the victims were originally targeted due to an online presence. Because of this they are busy generating on-line tools to help combat this trend. Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Yahoo and Adobe have all come on board to assist in this task.
Once this task force is operational Thorn will turn their attention to child pornography. Ashton is committed to seeing an end to online child pornography.
It is disturbing to realise that many familiar, supposedly helpful web sites have been infiltrated and are being used as online trafficking tools as well as many other illegal sexual activities.
Gone are the days when trafficking was conducted on a person to person basis, vans parked at the curb just waiting to nab you. It is all happening on line. Craigslist has been found to be a spot where traffickers and their public can be found exchanging “items”. If you know where to look on line people are being advertised just like you would advertise a car for sale. There will be a picture a description and a price.
The number of people working unwillingly for sex traffickers is unbelievable.
