The TNT Tropang Texters and the Alaska Aces will slug it out in a win-or-go home match today at the Araneta Coliseum for the last spot in the Final Four semis in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup. Tip-off is set at 7 p.m.
Staving off elimination last Tuesday night via an 85-81 win, the Aces will try to repeat against the Texters to book a date with the Meralco Bolts in a best-of-five affair starting Monday next week.
Alaska dodged a bullet from TNT in Game 2 when Troy Rosario missed a corner triple that could have given TNT the lead in the dying seconds of the game.
“My heart sunk to the fifth level of the basement parking when we left him open,” Alaska Coach Alex Compton joked. “We should never do that again.”
The other semis battle is between the San Miguel Beermen and the Rain or Shine Elastopainters. RoS sent crowd darling Ginebra to an early vacation with a convincing 102-89 win on Monday night, while SMB dispatched sister team Star Hotshots last Wednesday.
TNT will look to bounce back and keep its reign as the Commissioner’s Cup champion behind Asia’s best point guard Jayson Castro, reinforcement David Simon, and veteran forward Ranidel De Ocampo.
On the opposite side, the Aces will rely on Calvin Abueva and returning import Rob Dozier. Defense will be the key for Alaska as proven by their latest win. They were able to limit TNT to just 81 points, a dip from its 97 points per game average.
