Netizens urged by Lea Salonga to stop fighting about politics

- Lea Salonga called for peace and respect among the Filipino online community

- She said that the differences in political opinion are not reasons to insult and attack each other online

Singing sensation Lea Salonga on Tuesday appealed to the Filipino online community to finally make peace with each other and to stop bickering about political matters.

“We all need to take a step back, take a deep breath, and allow civility to return. For all our sakes, regardless of political affiliation.#NoToHate,” the internationally renowned performer posted on her Instagram account.

According to Lea, it is normal for Filipinos to have differences in opinion but it is wrong to insult, condemn and fight each other due to these differences.

“Ewan ko ba (I do not know)... Pero sana itigil na ang kalokahan na iyan (But I am hoping that they stop this non-sense). The hate does no one any favors,” Salonga said.

She added that netizens who have nothing constructive to say would do better if they just keep silent.

Several celebrities such as Christian Bautista, Nikki Valdez, and Robin Padilla have called for netizens to stop bickering with each other and to learn how to respect each other’s opinion.

The hostile arguments online between the pro and anti-Duterte netizens have resulted in curses, insults, personal attacks and even death threats.
