- The rock star admitted that he used to use illegal drugs
- He said that he quit the habit 14 years ago
- Pineda explained that drug use almost destroyed his social life, his health and his singing voice
Arnel Pineda, one of the most popular rock stars in the Philippines and frontman of the international band Journey, admitted on Sunday that he used to be a drug user but has quit the habit more than a decade ago.
“Ako, matagal na (I quit a long time ago already). I’ve been off the hook for fourteen years,” the rock star said.
According to Pineda, the reason he stopped using drugs is because of the danger it poses to a human’s body, mind and personal life.
“I think it will not do you really good, e, ang pagda-drugs (using drugs). Kasi, personally hindi siya maganda talaga sa katawan mo, e (Because, personally, it is not good for your body). It will just ruin your health and eventually it will ruin your life,” he said.
As for his personal experience, Arnel Pineda explained that his health, singing voice and social life suffered due to his past involvement in illegal drugs.
He also denied the claims that being high on drugs can improve a singer’s performance on stage.
“Pansamantala lang yun (It is only temporary). But the bad permanent effect is the one that’s inevitable. That’s the one that you should worry about,” he explained.
He also warned other showbiz personalities that abusing alcohol, having a dangerous nightlife and an irresponsible sexual behavior can bring happiness for a short time but they can cause destruction that is long-lasting.
Several celebrities like Manny Pacquiao, Christopher de Leon and Nonie Buencamino have admitted to using drugs in the past and have encouraged others to quit the habit while there is still time.
