The next day after Oniot's death, his grieving ex-girlfriend Esmieh Gallego posted a farewell message on her Facebook account, remembering their moments together when he was still alive. She posted some of their conversations and wrote a touching caption:
"All I can do is to pray for you and sending my hugs and all the words I want to tell you there in Heaven. You're truly a blessing and best lesson in my life. Thank you for everything!"
"I know God is beside you now, telling you that He loves you so much more than we do. I love you with the love of the Lord. You are always in my heart, Nick Russel Oniot."
Gallego ended the post with the hashtag #JusticeForNick and #PrayForNick followed by a short statement saying "Makaka move on din si Basha mo!"
The two suspects who killed Oniot were reported to have been caught by the authorities.
