Christopher de Leon, considered as one of the finest dramatic actors in Philippine history, revealed that he was a drug addict early in his career.
“Demonyo ‘yan, demonyo talaga 'yang droga, alam ko ‘yan (Drugs are demons, I know that),” the actor said.
De Leon also revealed that his career and family life suffered because of his involvement in illegal drugs.
“I was selling stuff, nobody wanted to get me for projects anymore. Friends were shying away from me… yung family ko, iniwan ako (my family left me),” he admitted.

“Hang on to God, eventually, He will make a way for you,” the actor advised.
He also expressed his support for the anti-drug campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte, saying that illegal drugs can destroy lives.
The anti-drug campaign in showbiz have intensified in recent months, with the police arresting actresses Sabrina M, Krista Miller, actor Mark Anthony Fernandez and radio DJ Karen Bordador for involvement in illegal drugs.
Several showbiz personalities such as Angel Locsin, Kris Aquino and Sam Milby have also supported the anti-drug war in showbiz.
However, comedian Tart Carlos recently claimed that some celebrities who have publicly posted the results of their drug test results have actually cheated the test with the help of a TV network.
