- Jade Rogers and her two babies were attacked by sister's dog
- The seemingly unprovoked attack happened in Colchester Essex on Thursday afternoon
- 4 month old Archie Joe Derby died in the attack
- The dog has been put down
Jade Rogers had moved with her two children into her sister’s home because she wanted a better life for her children. Her sister, Clare Ferdinand is a policewoman.
The two boys were left unattended while Jade was taking a bath. She rushed to help them when she became aware of the attack by the dog.
All three were injured and were rushed to hospital. Unfortunately 4 month old Archie Joe Darby did not survive the attack. Daniel Jay (22 months) has sustained injuries which will be life changing. He is presently in intensive care. Jade was treated and later released from hospital.
Jade and her partner are devastated by the attack. The move to her sister’s house was supposed to be the start of a better life for the small family. Friends have gathered around the couple to show their support. Gifts for Daniel and flowers for Jade have been left at the entrance to the property.
Clare Ferdinand and her husband John agreed to euthanize the dog. They are devastated that this could have happened in their home.
The dog was a type of Staffordshire bull terrier. It is unknown what could have caused the attack. The two children were very young so it is unlikely that they would have instigated actions which could have led to the attack.
Dog breeders have insisted that it is not the breed of dog but rather the circumstances that the dog lives in that provokes attacks. It is very likely that the dog did not like his territory being invaded by others and chose to defend his territory in the only way he knew how.
