Instead of the usual Halloween decorations like pumpkin lanterns, scary masks and vampire costumes as themes for the Halloween season, the subdivision made a different Halloween theme with figures of dead bodies wrapped in a garbage bag with masking tape and a card board with sign “Huwag Tularan.” The dead bodies signify the victims of extra judicial killings happening in the country.
The entrance gate was decorated with miniature cemetery and zombie replicas but what really caught the attention were the figures of dead bodies beside the gutter that was wrapped in a garbage bag with masking tape.
“Every year the residents of the subdivision celebrates Halloween and the decorations for this year’s Halloween party on October 29 is different because it reflects what is happening in the country and that extra judicial killings are the true horror that we need to be afraid of,” said Kristoffer Aleksie, one of the residents in subdivision.
“It is a very important issue in our country right now that they decided to make it fun and put light into that ‘cardboard justice’ that is happening,” he added.
When he posted it online, many netizens criticized their theme decorations and called him “anti-Duterte,” some also threatened his life.
Neitzens said that the theme was political and not good for the children but Aleksie defended that it is not political and their administration has no political agenda behind these theme decorations, they just wanted to show what is really happening in the country.
