As the Zika virus makes its way to the Philippines, marked off by 17 confirmed cases of incidence in the country, netizens make their concerns felt.
The feared virus, which according to the World Health Organization (WHO) is caused by a virus primarily transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, is reportedly already circulating in the Philippines.
As such, we have rounded up the reactions of the Filipino people to its presence:
1. Duterte supporters hits opposition
President Rodrigo Duterte is a force to reckon with. In a short span, he managed to gain a lot of support from the people, and his unconventional style had also sent some tongues wagging, albeit in disgust.
In light of the possible epidemic, the supporters had taken it upon themselves to assume that the President will be bearing the brunt of blame for the spread of this disease.
2. Sounds like zombie virus
Some netizens do not seem to understand how serious an epidemic the Zika virus can be, that they focus more on how the name sounds more than the effect.
3. Ipagdasal 'tong paring to
This netizen, Keith De Latorre, has made it clear that he sees the priest who adamantly refuse to acknowledge the need for protection during sexual intercourse, despite the spread of Zika virus, as sublimely ignorant.
Seems like some netizens have been rendered speechless by the news of it's transmission in the Philippines..
5. It's a low-key pro-RH Bill
This netizen seems to believe that this epidemic will help people accept the implementation of the Reproductive Health (RH) bill in the country.
6. The struggle is real
This netizen, @jiggyvillanueva, have been left with a dilemma - to leave himself unprotected from mosquitos by wearing short pants, or to suffer through the heat in silence and feel much more protected from mosquito bites.
Shall we help @jiggyvillanueva decide?
