- Senator Lacson supported Agot Isidro by saying that her rant against President Duterte makes sense
- According to Lacson, the poverty in the country might worsen if its foreign allies withdraw their support from the Philippine like what Duterte dared them to do
- He added that Duterte is overreacting to the negative comments regarding his anti-drug campaign
Actress Agot Isidro, who came under fire for posting a rant against President Rodrigo Duterte, has found an unlikely ally – Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.
According to the senator, the complaints made by Isidro against the President make sense.
“Sa isang banda, si Agot Isidro may sense sinasabi,” Lacson said.
(On one hand, what Agot Isidro said makes sense)
The senator expressed his worries about the overreaction of Duterte towards those who criticize his war against the illegal drug trade.
Duterte has repeatedly cursed and slammed the United States and the European Union for making negative comments about his anti-drug campaign. He even dared the US and the EU to withdraw their support from the Philippines.
“But I think the President is overreacting at times, unnecessary kasi ang tinatamaan dito ang longtime allies natin tulad ng US, UK, EU (which is unnecessary because it affects our relationship with our longtime allies such as the US, UK. EU),” Lacson pointed out.
In Isidro’s controversial post, she blasted the President for his hostile attitude towards the country’s allies. She said that if the US or EU withdraw their support from the Philippines, the country’s economy would suffer which could lead to more poverty nationwide.
“Kung makapagsalita ka parang superpower ang Pilipinas eh (You speak as if the Philippines is a superpower). Hindi na nga nakakain ang nakararami, gugutumin mo pa lalo (Many people are already starving and you are just going to starve them even more),” the actress posted on social media.
The President has reacted to Isidro’s rant against him, saying that the constitution allows her to express her opinion.
