- De Lima said that her source had told her that Sebastian agreed to testify after his wife pleaded with him to do so

Senator Leila de Lima accused her enemies of pressuring and forcing Jaybee Sebastian to testify against her at the House inquiry on the proliferation of illegal drugs in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

Sebastian – allegedly a drug lord and a gang leader inside the Bilibid – accused De Lima of protecting the drug trade in the prison and of receiving drug money to fund her election campaign for senator.

“Apparently and obviously, he was unable to take the pressure,” De Lima said of Sebastian.

She added that she has known for some time that Sebastian and the other high-profile Bilibid inmates were being pressured by President Rodrigo Duterte’s allies to say lies about her.

The embattled senator said her source told her that Sebastian agreed to testify against her after his wife requested him to do so.

“That can be the only explanation why he was not able to take the pressure. He has heeded his wife who had pleaded to him to follow whatever they told him to do because they were only after De Lima. De Lima will understand it later,” De Lima quoted her source.

De Lima has repeatedly denied the drug allegations against her and said that she will fight for the truth until her last breath.

According to the previous high-profile convicts who testified against De Lima, it was Ronnie Dayan – her former driver and bodyguard – who receives the drug money on behalf of the then Department of Justice secretary.

But according to Sebastian, it was Joenel Sanchez – a former member of De Lima’s security team – who received the drug payoffs. The convict also alleged that De Lima and Sanchez had a romantic affair.

Sebastian was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for carjacking and kidnap-for ransom in 2009 and then became a leader of one of the biggest gangs in the Bilibid.
