Miss World 2013 Megan Lynne Young has vocalized strong disagreement to comparisons with Miss World Philippines 2016 Catriona Elisa Gray.
Since winning the Miss World Philippines 2016, the Filipino-Australian Gray has been unrelentingly compared to Young. Instances when Catriona was tagged as the "next Megan Young" emerged as netizens see how disturbingly similar the two are.
In one post, netizen @TEAM_Visayas had said, "Catriona Gray looks like Megan Young."
Aside from the physical similarities, both also hailed from the entertainment industry - as models. Both had been heavy favorites in the competition and were born from parents of different nationalities as well.
In an interview, however, Young had reacted at the moniker "next Megan Young" given to Gray. According to the Filipino-American actress and beauty queen, Gray "is her own person."
She also said, “She can become her own person and I think there are so many good qualities about her that are so different from me as well.”
Young urged people to look at Catriona and see her as she is so "she’ll shine even more".
The country's first-ever Miss World also advised Gray to get a lot of rest and make sure that her goal is to be the best version of herself.
"She has a good Beauty with a Purpose project so she should just continue to do that and, of course, prepare mentally, physically and emotionally for when she gets there. It’s tough when you’re there,” Young added.
