An 18 year old boy from India with an 18cm tail is finally getting it removed! Doctors believe this is the longest vestigial tail ever recorded.
The boy and his parents had been keeping the tail a secret all his life and today neurosurgeons are finally able to relieve him of this burden. The tail had been causing the boy discomfort and pain and he had trouble sitting and sleeping.
The doctor stated that if the tail had been removed right after birth there would have been less complications, and if the vestigial tail is left unattended there is a chance that it can cause bladder, bowel and leg function problems.
The surgeon believes that this boy’s case is a rare one and will be presented in medical journals.
