Senator Leila De Lima condemns the administration´s treatment of women at the forum organized by concerned women's rights groups at the Commission on Human Right´s Bulwagang Ka Pepe on Wednesday, October 5.
According to the lady senator, ¨Sa dinami-dami ng pinagdaanan ko bilang babae, akala ko ay maalam at beterana na ako sa buhay ng babae.¨
(After everything that I have experienced as a woman, I thought I was already a learned veteran in the life of the woman.)
De Lima admitted to being humbled by the ¨serialistic¨ attacks upon realizing that her life as an action woman had been a sheltered one - free of the ¨problems that are affecting society and real victims¨.
In her speech, De Lima laments how the society trivialize women´s issues to weaponize humor and how women are being turned against each other.
She also pointed out that if Representative Danilo Suarez does not know about the existence of ´slut-shaming´, he needs to undergo human rights and gender sensitivity training.
¨They made me an example of what will happen if you go against this administration. Ang Pangulo natin, ayaw nang kinokontra siya,¨ De Lima accused.
(They made me an example of what will happen if you go against this administration. Our President, he does not want anybody to contradict him.)
¨We should all be vigilant, very vigilant. It's not about me, not about you. It's for a bigger cause. For our country, ¨ warned De Lima.
