- Senator Leila de Lima called inmate Jaybee Sebastian as a government asset used to further destroy her reputation
- De Lima denied the allegation that Sebastian was one of the inmates who raised money for her senatorial bid
- The fearless senator said that she will answer all accusations thrown at her in the Senate inquiry
Despite all the allegations thrown at her way, Senator Leila de Lima remains tough and said that inmate Jaybee Sebastian, who was identified as one of the inmates who pooled money inside the New Bilibid Prison, was indeed a government asset.
“Yes, that’s true,” said De Lima when asked if Sebastian was actually a government asset
As claimed by Sebastian, the money was used for De Lima’s 2016 senatorial bid, however, De Lima strongly denied the allegations.
Magdalo party-list Representative Gary Alejano also claims that Sebastian is a government asset used to destroy De Lima’s reputation.
“The reason why I’m saying he’s an asset is to dispel yung mga maling haka-haka (the wrong speculations), insinuations that the reason why hindi muna siya sinama sa Bilibid 19 (he was not included in Bilibid 19) is because favored, protektado and lalo na yung insinuations na yan siya kumolekta ng pera [para] sa akin (and the insinuations that he was the one collecting the money for me),” the Senator explained.
During a press conference, De Lima challenged the House committee to invite Jaybee Sebastian to their probe and investigation on the alleged illegal drug operation inside the NBP.
“Let him address that. If he wants to testify, let him address that,” De Lima said.
Jaime Patcho, one of the witnesses and an inmate in the NBP, said that he was called by Sebastian because they would be engaging in the illegal drug trade to help De Lima raise money for his senatorial bid.
Moreover, Patcho said that he saw De Lima twice when he visited Sebastian in his kubol.
De Lima denied the allegations and said that they are “complete false” and “very malicious”.
“Hangga’t marinig ko muna mga pwedeng sabihin ng mga witnesses na yan (Until I hear all the possible statements of those witnesses), I don’t want to be saying things on specific allegations muna being mouthed by these witnesses,” she said.
The Senator said that she will remain strong and will answer all accusations thrown at her.
