- Mocha Uson has once again drawn flak for calling the media ‘presstitutes’ due to its critical view of Duterte’s leadership
- Press Secretary Martin Andanar said that Mocha’s statement is not sanctioned by the Office of the President
- Andanar clarified that the important thing for the office is to give the right message of the President to the public
Press Secretary Martin Andanar defended the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte after die-hard supporter Mocha Uson called media who are very critical about Duterte’s leadership as ‘presstitutes’.
Andanar said that the Office of the President does not have anything to do with Uson’s statement despite her loyalty and support to the President.
“Kanya-kanyang pananaw naman ‘yan. Lahat naman tayo dito, halos lahat kayo kolumnista. May kanya-kanyang kayong column, may kanya-kanya kayong pananaw. ‘Yun ang pananaw ni Mocha, so she’s entitled to her own opinion,” the Press Secretary explained.
(We all have our own views. Every one of us here are columnists. Each of you has your own column and own views. That is Mocha’s view, so she is entitles to her own opinion.)
When asked if Mocha is ruining the President’s image because of her statements, Andanar said that his job is to protect the interest of the President.
“Ang sa akin lang naman dito, ang pinuprotektahan ko lang, ang opisina ng Pangulo as the press secretary of the President. Ang aking interest po ay protektahan ang opisina ng Presidente, protektahan po ang opisina ng PCOO at maibigay ang tamang mensahe sa publiko,” he said.
(My job is to protect the Office of the President as the press secretary. My interest is to protect the Office of the President, protect the office of the PCOO, and to give the right message to the public.)
Andanar added, “So pagdating po sa mga debate sa social media, the social media is a free space. Wala naman ho tayong control sa social media, so ipinauubaya ko na lang ho ‘yan sa debate sa social media.”
(When it comes to debates in social media, the social media is a free space. We don’t have any control over it, so I am not going to intervene in such debate.)
Moreover, Andanar said that the President’s statements are most of the time misinterpreted by many Filipinos.
“Ang mahalaga ho ay ang sa amin, maibigay ko sa inyo ang pinakaibig sabihin o kahulugan ng mga statements ng ating Pangulo. Na kung minsan ay name-misinterpret po ng ating mga kababayan,” Andanar said.
(The important this is to give the meaning of the statements of the President to the public. Which are sometimes misinterpreted by the people.)
