A mother from South Korea was charged with child abuse as she was found guilty for stabbing her daughters with scissors and by not providing them their basic needs.
Busan District Court sentenced a 46-year-old mother with one year and six months in prison and ordered her to complete an 80-hour long child abuse prevention program. The woman was found guilty mistreating her 9-year-old and 13-year-old daughters.
In July, the unnamed mother punished her older daughter by stabbing her with scissors and denied her of medical treatment for the gashes. She also forced her to drink alcohol, which is a concoction of makgeolli (Korean rice wine) and Sprite. Being a minor¸ the daughter declined, but the mother said, "It's okay to drink when I'm here."
Upon investigation, it was found out that the abuse was going on for sometime. In January, the mother shoved her older child for playing too many games and destroyed her computer and monitor.
The younger daughter was not free from abuse as she forced the nine-year-old to stay awake the whole night when she disobeyed her. She also threatened her to kill her if she fell asleep. In another time, she locked her younger daughter out of the house and made her spend the night in front of the house.
According to the court documents, “She has committed all sorts of abusive behavior toward her young children including harming them with a lethal weapon, forcing them to sleep outside, and feeding them alcohol, and it was hard to find any signs of reflection during the investigation process or the trials. The husband is also serving time for committing child abuse against his daughters but we have decided to sentence 'A' with a severe punishment."
